So long story short I FINALLY (after months of complaining and driving everyone nuts) went to my doctor to get my back pain checked out. I have always had back issues since I first pulled out my back when I was 20. I just assumed I either 1. was sleeping on it wrong, 2. needed a new mattress/pillows or 3. wasn't stretching appropriately. I made an appointment with my primary to get to the bottom of it and was very UNPLEASANTLY surprised with the outcome.
After being immediately sent to Morton Hospital to get X-Rays, I was told I have arthritis in my spine and degenerative disk disease.
EW. I am like 25 not 85. As if having to go on my own health insurance next month (curse you 26!!) wasn't depressing enough, I know have to go to see a specialist and a physical therapist twice a week.
My first appointment with the therapist was Saturday and I mean, it could have been worse. She did this weird ultra sound thing on my lower back and right trap. It was irritating but apparently stimulates my muscles. Whatever.
She also told me I have a weak core and hamstrings. OUCH. Her hope is for me to gain strength in both of these areas and to improve my flexibility and ability to support my degenerating spine. She gave me daily exercises to do in addition to our two appointments a week.
MY hope is to be able to touch my toes finally and maybe do a back bend? A girl can dream.
